Chapter 6 Core Questions

  • Why should the visual arts be integrated into science, social studies, etc.?

Arts Integration becomes more valuable to the learner when it is implemented along with other content, especially standards. While the arts are not required in the classroom, they are a fundamental contribution to education and creativity. Allowing for creativity within the California Core content allows for the educational value to be raised. While the student will naturally learn some content for long term, the student will be able to assess higher on the Bloom Taxonomy.

  • What do teachers need to know to meaningfully integrate the visual arts?

Teachers need to know several things such as, there are “danger signs.” Students who state, “I can’t” often times are comparing their material to a much higher assessment (such as the teacher’s output). Not only does encouragement factor in but the motivation, creative inquiry, and aesthetic orienting. Creating the environment for creative growth is also vital. While there are creative minds in the class, some students need additional help to see the creativity with in them. As a teacher creating integration of the arts, it is important to remember that a meaningful integrated lesson should bring smiles and happy moments to the student’s faces.

  • How can classroom teachers use the ten AI Pillars to implement visual arts integration?

Teachers can use the pillars by placing them as a check list until the pillars are constantly met while creating lessons. Using the pillars as a guide to meaningful AI can help students get the most out of the lesson with room grow,

Chapter 6 Research Update

I agree with the research update on page 223. While I found the content for the update on page 225, I place more value on the research that was performed. The research update discussed tops such as active reading and problem solving skills. I find that AI is valuable because of the latter in research. As a teacher, I will be assisting students with their problem-solving skills, content comprehension, as well as close and closed reading. Per edutopia.org, a George Lucas educational foundation, that focuses on remembering how to acknowledge the tools teachers needed to have once to learn how to read (Alber, 2013). The article focuses on helping teachers prep for the lesson in reading by providing tips. “Previewing Text and Vocabulary,” is helpful when looking for certain portions of the content to develop a well-rounded understanding.

Museums with Education:

Claremont Museum of Art is a great institution that believes the community should always be provided with adequate access to the Arts. I was raised in the local area, and U like to place value on institutions that create an inviting, well-rounded- civic-minded public serve to the community. YouTube/video:

This article deals with the ability to utilize YouTube in the classroom. The article provides different ways to use the video. One that I intend on trying was, creating a playlist for the students to use as the school year goes on. A reference for the students to come back to all year long is a valuable way to teach lifelong learning.
