How do multiple intelligences influence teaching and learning?

Multiple intelligences influence teaching and learning by many different ways since there are all types of students in one class. According to the text, entity theory explains intelligence is determinate at birth. Also, incremental theory explains it differently, rather than intelligence being determined at birth, intelligence can actually progress throughout life. Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences, explains 8 kids of different intelligences. They involve linguistic, bodily-kinesthetic, musical, spatial, interpersonal, intrapersonal, naturalist, and there might be a 9th called existential intelligence. Gardner’s theory inspired many educators to redesign their curricula in order to help all types of students. A different approach to comprehend assessments that is more tangible in student learning, is the portfolio approach. Lastly, the five minds is a book that advises new directions for schools. The five minds consist of ethical, respectful, disciplined, synthesizing, and creating. The school life revolves around students with all types of intelligence, and crucial for teachers to find ways to teach and help students learn.

 

How can teachers respond to students’ different learning styles?

Teachers can respond to students’ different learning styles by teaching in various ways. There are so many ways of learning, comprehending, and utilizing information learned. There are students that can comprehend information quick and there are others that information needs to be repeated. Some students can learn better in quiet places and others need music. Three learning factors that can contribute to student learning is physiology, affective, and cognitive. Integrating different learning styles while teaching can benefit students to learn better.
