PS1: Matter and Its Interactions
2-PS1-1 Matter and Its interactions: Plan and conduct an investigation to describe and classify different kinds of materials by their observable properties.
2-PS1-2 Matter and Its Interactions: Analyze data obtained from testing different materials to determine which materials have the properties that are best suited for an intended purpose.
2-PS1-3 Matter and Its Interactions: Make observations to construct an evidence-based account of how an object made of a small set of pieces can be disassembled and made into a new object.
2-PS1-4 Matter and Its Interactions: Construct an argument with evidence that some changes caused by heating or cooling can be reversed and some cannot.

I found Generation Genius to be a great resource. I really liked that the website allows the user to find lessons based on the standards for the different grade levels. These different lessons provide learning videos, discussion questions, vocabulary, reading materials, DIY activity guides, lesson plans, teacher guide, and assessments such as online quiz games, paper quizzes, and exit tickets. The site is very user friendly and offers a wealth of information on the different Science topics. The videos are really fun and would be good to use at the engage section of a lesson. The discussion questions the website provides also serves as a way to engage students, to tap into background knowledge, and prepare them for the lesson. The reading material was also great to use to teach new information to students. The reading material on the website also included lots of photos and had a read out loud feature perfect to meet the needs of all students. The DIY activities are also very easy to follow and provide a video to explain the activity that the teacher and students can watch. The different activities I looked through were all very hands-on and engaging. The lesson plans also explain how they correlate with the different Next Generation Science Standards and break them down into the 5 E’s of engage, explore, explain, elaborate, and evaluate. The Teacher Guide section is also really helpful because it addresses common misconceptions and tips for teachers. I also really like the variety of assessments the different lessons have. The online quiz games are a fun way to assess students utilizing technology. For the online quiz games, they can be played as a group or individually. There were also online flashcards with photos that can be used to help students learn concepts and build scientific vocabulary. The paper quizzes could also be used as review or homework for students. The Exit tickets are also a great tool, that allow students to reflect on what they have learned. This website is a great resource that would help teachers and greatly benefit students.
