Welcome!

My name is Cara Orlinsky, and I am a student at the University of La Verne.

I am majoring in Educational Studies.  I grew up in Pasadena, California with my family and just graduated from Citrus College.  I have always known I w anted to be a teacher from the time I was a child.  I have a deep passion for teaching and helping children, so  I definitely want to teach the younger kids at Elementary school age.  I love learning all I can about children, education, and ways I can become a great teacher.  My biggest goal is to become a teacher who makes a difference in the lives of my students.  I am so excited to become a teacher and look forward to all the fun ways I can help children learn.  My favorite grade in school was second, so that is a grade I would love to teach.
I have volunteered helping children from the time I was in middle school and nothing brings me greater joy than when I see a student learn and understand concepts I have taught them.  I have volunteered many summers at my local library for their summer reading program where I help children select appropriate reading level books, get them excited about reading, help them to improve their reading, and then listen to their oral book reports and distribute awards.  I have always found this to be a particularly fun and rewarding program and I love volunteering for it.

Literacy is a very important issue to me.  I love reading and helping to encourage a love for reading in children.  I love hearing the children tell me about the books they've read.  I love the excitement in children who are eager to tell me about the stories they've read, and I love encouraging and helping the children who are shy and nervous to come out of their shells.  I have also had the privilege to volunteer with children in the arts and love seeing their creativity and just how much can be learned through art.  I have had the joy of interacting with children in educational play…from children pretending they are the president running the country to buying fake products in a play grocery store.  It is amazing to see how much children learn through play and I highly recognize this importance.  Through my classes at Citrus College, I have been able to observe different Elementary School classes and gained a greater understanding of the teacher's role in the education of their students.  I have always valued education and hope to instill my great love for learning in my students.  In my spare time I enjoy photography, playing with my Devon Rex cats, spending time with family, and coming up with fun and creative ideas for my future classroom!
